My first impression, when I saw one in some DE in one of the Norn areas was “Oh brother… Aion is that way!” Of all the races in the game this is the one I feel is second worst designed (Risen being the worst of all time). A “Largos Neophyte” profession for the existing races sounds much cooler. A new profession is like a new 200 hours of playtime added to the game for me. New professions are the things I get really excited about, since those add skills, weapons, profession utilities and traits. Around the mid levels, from a mechanical and storytelling perspective, your race ceases to matter. A few flavor racial skills that are intentionally less effective than profession skills. A short personal story branch that just converges into the same as every other races story around the time of the “Orders” arc. And I did wanted to see the Kodan as playable until I tried some of the more complicated jumping puzzles and played in some of the more tightly corridor-ed dungeons as a Norn.Īll things considered though, what does a new race add? A capitol city that will likely be abandoned for Lion’s Arch. I don’t really dig the way the Tengu have changed in the last two centuries. Largos would actually be preferred for me. The more new races the better IMO, so long as they are introduced with the same care, detail and depth as the originals. Especially considering how neatly the Sylvari already fill that role. And since we know virtually nothing about their culture…I can’t see where you are drawing any sort of parallel. In general I can’t think of any elves ever wearing iron masks, having scaly textures to their skin, phosphorescent extra appendages, or Eastern European accents. So why do the Largos give off an elfin vibe? Because the Largos are lithe, and well spoken? So are the Tengu. There is more “race pride” than I typically see in games. This is something that seems to have resonated well, since lots of players in GW really dig the races for their backgrounds and unique attitudes rather than racial perks. Those things really prevent them from just being the usual tropes in disguise. The thing what makes them “GW” is the culture, history and attitudes of the races. We already have the biggest cliches in the history of fantasy story telling.Īlso, asura fit the gnome archtype, Norn fit the orc/half-orc archtype and Sylvari cover the elves. This is funny because it’s still a game where you put on armor or robes and swing giant swords or shoot fireballs at dragons. I want unqiue races that are created for the GW universe, not something that looks like its the culmination of every elf race every made. They’re generic “fantasy-RPG” garbage, and I don’t know why they were added in the first place. The Ancient Cyclops on the nearby island has regular Cyclopses as one of its placeholders and these regular Cyclopses share all of the characteristics of the Seafury Cyclopses.Oh heck no. You can safely pull them from the Hill on which they roam down to the beach without getting adds (unless someone pulls them over you). Also, a Tainted Seafury Cyclops can spawn, who is also higher level when killed, a Corrupt Seafury Cyclops will always spawn on its corpse, which is needed for the Druid Epic. With 4+ people hunting there, you'll probably be competing for the spawns.īesides the regular Seafury Cyclopses, the spawns can also be Quag Maelstrom, a named Cyclops for the Bard Epic, who uses a single-target mana-drain song (and he drains rapidly!). If 2-3 people are hunting there, you might need to look around from time to time. You'll be hard-pressed to clear the whole island when you're alone. They can also drop four kinds of gems (Fire Opal ~45pp, Star Ruby ~60pp, Fire Emerald ~80pp, Sapphire ~95pp) as well as four kinds of (statless) jewelry (Pearl Necklace ~4.5pp (which I think is a typo in the item price in SOE's database! It should be 45pp), Emerald Ring ~60pp, Opal Bracelet ~80pp, Mithril Amulet ~95pp). Besides these, they can drop random research items of the kind that can be expected from mobs of this level, as well as Cyclops Eyes which are used in a Freeport Necromancer quest if I am right. You can tell their level by their max damage, since it increases by 2 for every level (68 dam at lvl 38, 70 dam at lvl 39. Seafury Cyclopses range from level 38 to level 42 and hit for 68 max up to 76 max. Seafury Island also has the pirate outpost with Gornit on it. There are about 5-10 spawns roaming the island next to the island which has the Ancient Cyclops spawn. Seafury Cyclopses in the Ocean of Tears are the ONLY source for Mugs of Sea Foam.
